Thought these
could be of interest to the Society - photos were from a newspaper.
They were taken in 1967 after I had left the Merchant Navy. I sailed
on her in 1962. She was homeward bound from Bluff to Panama when a
fire started in the passengers accommodation below the bridge. It
burned out the bridge and seven lives were lost. She put back to
Wellington - steering was from emergency position aft. Interior
photograph is of the burnt out bridge. She was patched up
temporarily and only did one more trip without passengers before she
