I only spent 5 years at sea following my time at PWSTS. In 1970 I returned to Birmingham and joined Birmingham Fire Brigade. This changed its name to the West Midlands Fire Service on local government re-organisation in 1974 and I stayed with them until 2000.

I was a Station Officer at Erdington in North Birmingham for the final 20 years. I then took a year off, travelled around the world with Dianne my wife, visiting lots of the places I'd been to earlier!

I now work part-time in Support Services for West Mercia Constabulary in Redditch, Worcestershire.
