When the school moved to Dover in 1953 I wagged secondary school and l  presented myself to the Commander. I was excepted and joined in June of that year, the first from Dover.

I was chosen with two others to attend the Spithead Review aboard the H.M.S. Superb for three days.

Later I was lucky enough to also be chosen for the SS Gothic, the Royal Tour with Jimmy Ewing and Rod Sadler, which we joined on the 12th October 1953. Turns out I was the youngest aboard.

I came to live in New Zealand in December 1961.
