Glenn Adams
I went to PWSTS on the 19th January 1973 to 19th May 1973. I was in Arethusa 73.
I did five and a half years in the Merchant Navy until the waiting time for
ships at the ‘pool’ became too long. I left and joined a regional electricity
company and I am still there 26 years later. I am married with 5 children and
now have 3 grandsons.
I have fond memories of my time in Dover and am saddened, in particular with the
passing of Mr Hadley. To me he was a true ‘Master Mariner’. He was one of the
greatest characters that I ever had the privilege to meet.
I often reflect
with nostalgia the times that we had at the school. The discipline, the scratchy
uniforms and the cross country runs past the Borstal and the cheery comments
from its inmates. Though we moaned about it at the time, looking back at it I
would not hesitate to do it all over again.
The things the school did teach were self reliance and discipline and I believe
that this has stood me in great stead throughout my life.
