I entered the POWSTH Limehouse on 3rd January 1938 and eventually joined the Capetown Castle on 30th June 1938 as a deck boy one of 8 deck boys which were carried at that time. I stayed with the Capetown until the end of the war when I then took a job as mate on a naval salvage tug and eventually ended up as assisting operating manger at Newhaven harbour.

I noticed a piece by "Bob Ball" who spoke about our round the globe trip with the "German "prisoners of war who we off loaded in Halifax he also mentioned the "Foke Wolf Bomber" off the Western approaches, the bomb he dropped did some damage to our steering gear and I have a photo of myself at the Emergency steering gear on the after Gun deck, the photo was taken by the Chief Laundry man who was in the laundry when the attack took place.

I have already in a previous E Mail told of the incident with a sub off the coast of Bermuda just thought that this would be of some interest. Regards to all the old shipmates who may still be alive I am now 85 years old and as I joined as a deck boy there probably aren't many about.
