I joined the school in October 1965- February 1966. First ship was Oriana out of Southampton. The Captain of the school was Capt Vine, cannot remember bosons name, but will always Charley Porte he was 50 odd yrs old then, but he always beat us kids up gun hill. There was another teacher but cannot think of his name either.

I spent four and a half yrs at sea ,only worked on 4 ships, Oraina, Anco storm (tanker) Bridgepool (bulk cargo) 13 months at sea and the British dragoon. Had a great time. Done what I wanted to do, see the world at someone else’s expense. I am 54 now, 2 kids 4 grandkids - skint but happy.
